Another GREAT Season for the Lady Warriors 91

A huge congratulations are in order to the young ladies for another great season.

A blend of seasoned veterans and new faces pulled together to perform superbly on the field. A final record of 6-2-2 insured a final winning season for the Waterford lady Warriors 91, and the 19 goals for versus the 9 goals against continued the goal scoring tradition of scoring twice as many goals as the opposition.

Again, congratulations and thank you for a fine season.

Lady Warriors 91 First Game

A great start to the season. Playing in our first league game, Sept. 12, the Waterford Lady Warriors 91 recorded their first win of the season.

What was especially noteworthy was that the team won the game playing with only 10 players the entire game and playing with 9 players for about half the game due to an injury.

Showing great effort, grit and determination the Lady Warriors made their chances count, Kaitlyn G. scoring twice, the second about as odd a goal as you will ever see. Striking the ball from about 25 yards out, Kaitlyn hit the crossbar with her shot, the ball popping straight up a good twenty feet into the air causing the keeper to loose sight of it. It then fell straight back down, just in front of the crossbar and right next to the goalie, hit the ground and spun back into the goal.

A little lucky? Maybe, but the girls deserved this victory. What was especially impressive was that as the game wore on the passing game became increasingly better to the point where the ball rarely entered our defensive third. For much of the second half, the girls dominated the game despite their fatigue and it very often looked as if the opposing team were the team with too few players on the field.

Congratulations to the players and a game to be very proud of for the girls who battled so hard for the victory.

The tradition of success continues! The Waterford Lady Warriors 91 had a successful opening tournament at the SCS Waterfront Invitational earning another appearance in a tournament final. Against a very good MSPSP Premier 1 Rochester Lightning team in our first game and again in the final, we can be proud of the tremendous improvement of the team in terms of performance and confidence. Congratulations for a fine showing in our first competition.

The Season

As was expected, the MSPSP Premier 1 season was extremely difficult.

With the exception of the Jackson United squad and the Livonia United B squad, every team we played against was a regional all-star team.

The results on paper did not look so good, but truth be told, the Waterford Lady Warriors acquited themselves admirably against some VERY good teams.

With the exception of the Livonia United team (who are ranked no. 2 in the state, no. 12 in USSF Region 2 and no. 44 nationally) the Waterford Lady Warriors 91 played well and were competitive in every game.

More importantly, the girls continued to have fun and their enthusiasm and committment to the game, the team and each other never falterd.

All in all, congratulations to all of the players. We should all be very proud of their accomplishments.

Tournament Results

Congratulations to the Waterford Lady Warriors 91 for an outstanding Fall 08 Tournament season.

Advancing to three finals and winning Championships in the Troy Elite Tournament and the Romeo Peachfest.

A combined tournament record of 11-1-1 with a scoring record of 26 GF and 4 GA.
